The research was done for the Uzbekistan Silk Association. The Objective was to assess the Uzbekistan silk value-chain segments to strengthen the competitiveness and investment attraction of the sericulture sector.

Assessment of the impact of COVID-19 on agriculture and food security Sponsored by the Food & Agriculture Organization of the UN
It was implemented for the Leibniz Institute of Agricultural Development in Transition Economies (IAMO). This research studied the impact of COVID-19 on agriculture, food, and rural areas in Uzbekistan.

Workplace discrimination in Uzbekistan sponsored by the United Nations Population Fund
Title: Businesses for Gender Equality in the Workplace
To describe the experiences and impact on workplace performance of workplace discrimination and inequality in private companies in Uzbekistan. Qualitative in-depth interviews with approximately 20-25 HR managers and a large-scale quantitative survey (1500-2000 respondents) with employees from a range of private companies across the Tashkent region. Research findings and case studies with the best practices will disseminate across the stakeholders and business organizations, as well as a guidance document with practical recommendations on how can adjust corporate policies to promote gender equality and family-friendly environments and eliminate violence against women. Upon completion of the project, it is planned to establish a network of businesses committed to undertaking actions and adjusting corporate policies in line with the provided recommendations.

Advisory Support for Green Recovery. Sponsored by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD)
Title: Advisory services for greening COVID-19 economic recovery measures in Uzbekistan
This research aims to support the Ministry of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction in Uzbekistan’s t COVID-19 transition to a green recovery. The project has four main deliverables:
i. Assess stakeholders and capacity needs for green recovery and transition;
ii. Assess COVID-19 response measures and potential greening, inclusivity, and economic implications.
iii. Identify best practices in a green economy and indicators, and
iv. facilitation, networking, and communication with stakeholders for the green recovery/transition.

Agriculture Price & Market Analysis. Sponsored by the Food & Agriculture Organization of the UN
This research supports the technical implementation of the Agriculture Prices and Market Information System and related policy analysis for selected agricultural value chains in Uzbekistan. There are three main outputs:
i.Collect, analyze and disseminate price information for selected value-chains
ii. Monitor commodity market development and
iii. Produce knowledge products, regional cooperation, and agricultural outlook report.

Title: EU assistance for Uzbekistan Agri-Food Development Strategy 2020-2030
This project aims to contribute to achieving the 2030 Vision of the Agri-Food Sector (presented in the Uzbekistan Agri-Food Development Strategy 2020-2030), which aims to develop a competitive, market, and export-oriented Uzbekistan Agri-food Sector. The primary role of CPRO is to support research and capacity development and advise the government; this, in turn, will increase farm income, create new jobs, enhance food security, and ensure the sustainable use of natural resources. The project will accompany the Government of Uzbekistan in implementing the sector reform, to which the EU is providing an additional €33 million through its Budget Support modality.

POST-COVID Inequality in Central Asia sponsored by the Central Asia Regional Cooperation (CAREC) Institute
Title: Post-COVID - Induced Inequalities: Education, Health Services, Digital Access, and Female Labor Force Participation
The research objective is to understand better the patterns of social inequality in Uzbek society that might have emerged due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We study impacts on health services, education, digitization, women, and employment. Inequalities will also consider gender, rural regions, and poverty. The study will employ quantitative and qualitative data analysis methods and present the findings using narratives, tables, and figures. The study aims to provide contextual options for addressing disparities triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic. The study will be published with parallel studies from Pakistan, Azerbaijan, and Kazakhstan.

Valuation of health state of Uzbekistan Population through EQ-5D-5L tool: EuroQoL
This research project is the first health state value set measure of Uzbekistan’s population. The goal of the project is to develop a value set for EQ-5D-5L health states based on the preferences of the Uzbekistan general population. The findings will be first step to perform economic evaluation of the health state and to make evidence-based policy decisions in the health sector. The results of the study are useful for researchers, policy makers, and academicians in the Ministry of Health. The research involves a population-based survey that is interviewer-administered, face-to-face, and cross-sectional. It will be conducted using a computer assisted EuroQol PowerPoint Based Valuation Technology (EQ-PVT) software. A representative sample of 1000 respondents will be recruited from the Uzbekistan general population to participate in the survey. A non-probability, two-stage quota sampling based on gender and age will be employed to recruit respondents from five regions: Tashkent, Bukhara, Khorezm, Kashkadarya, and Fergana.

Green Growth Indicators for Uzbekistan
The project involves the preparation and presentation of a baseline GGI report for Uzbekistan using the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD, 2017) 21 GG indicators that are grouped into 4 main GGIs and Socio economic context chapters. The report will also cover the government of Uzbekistan’s eight green economy strategic indicators. The analytical work is an extension of WIUT’s advisory services to the Ministry of Economy and Poverty Reduction (MoEPR) for greening COVID-19 economic recovery measures in Uzbekistan.

Development of evidence-based agri-food policy analysis capacities in Uzbekistan- IAMO (in process)
The main goal of the project is to develop a tool that helps agriculture policy makers to make evidence-based decisions and enhance the capacity of the newly established ISCAD – think tank center in the Ministry of Agriculture. A kick-off event for the project was held on November 29, 2022.The project is led by Dr Nodir Djanibekov at the Leibniz Institute of Agriculture Development in Transition Economies (IAMO). The CPRO will participate in developing a policy simulation tool for Tashkent region and in capacity building on development and application of policy simulation tools for Uzbekistan.

UNESCO chair for futures studies in Uzbekistan
The purpose of the Chair project is to promote an integrated System of research, training, information, and documentation focused on futures studies for anticipatory governance and sustainable policymaking. Leveraging the expertise of CPRO, the Chair will take into consideration anticipatory governance in the national context, leading interdisciplinary participatory research and teaching activities to cultivate futures studies and anticipation as part of innovative national and regional policymaking. The Chair activities will facilitate collaboration between internationally recognized researchers and teaching staff from the University and other local, regional and international institutions.
